Direct Shear Accessories

Accessories are available to accommodate round or square specimen shapes. They are used with Shear Boxes in shear strength testing with the Dead-Weight Direct or Pneumatic Direct/Residual Shear Machines.

• Cutters have built-in cutting edges and are used to precisely trim soil specimens. Select a cutter by round or square shape with a range of imperial and metric sizes.
• Extruders easily remove soil samples from the matching-size Shear Box after testing, while keeping the specimen intact. They come in a range of in or mm diameter measurements, in sizes that also correlate to Cutters.
• Porous Stones are made of aluminum oxide and available in both round and square shapes; they are 0.25in (6.4mm) thick. Round Porous Stones come in a variety of sizes ranging from 1.953in (49.6mm) to 3.985in (101.2mm) in diameter. Square Porous Stones range from 1.953x1.953in (49.6x49.6mm) to 3.985x3.985in (101.2x101.2mm). A top and bottom Porous Stone is used in testing.
• Grade 55 Filter Paper is used in testing direct shear soil samples. This round paper has high wet strength. Available in five diameters ranging from 2.0 to 6.0in (51 to 152mm), and equivalent to Whatman Grade 54 Filter Paper recommended in numerous ASTM and AASHTO test standards.
